Baby Talk by Dr Sally Ward

The speech pathologists at the State Child Development Centre recommend this book.  Try your local library if you don’t want to buy a copy yourself.

Dr Ward (a speech pathologist and audiologist) gives the following advice to parents:

  • In the early months, keep talking, even if the baby is not talking back.
  • It will help to remove all the background noise which could distract the baby.
  • Be on the baby’s agenda and talk about what the baby is interested in.
  • This all needs to be implemented for at least half an hour a day.
  • Talking with your Baby (a handout based on ideas from the Sally Ward book)

Talking with your Child (if they are starting to use words)
